The design brief for this house renovation was clear from the start – enough space for all family members with enough private and shared spaces.
Passive design was one of the key considerations at the initial concept to provide maximum of natural light for daytime living areas and garden by facing it north.
Passive design was one of the key considerations at the initial concept to design daytime living areas and garden facing north to maximise natural daylight. Windows positioned to allow flow for breezes coming through and majority of roof facing north for solar panels.
Our biggest challenge was that the site is affected by two significant overlays. One is an overland flow and to design around flooding the house has to be raised up from the ground for all habitable areas. The second overlay is character residential overlay where we have to keep within the character house in the neighbourhood. This is achieved by keeping the front façade traditional including most of the existing roof line and adding more modern look towards the rear while still using traditional materials. Lovely blend of when old meets the new! Can’t wait to start on the interior, it’ll be exciting!!!!
